the buildings, the whole of the first tenders having been rejected. It was bruited about by enemies of the Government that " the cause of this delay was some uncertainty as to the removal of the seat of Government, Mr. Vogel having kept the matter hanging over the heads of the Wellington party as an inducement to secure their votes. We believe, however, that this report was unfounded, the real reason of the delay being the excessive amount of the tenders. The new buildings will be a great convenience, as the vaiicis departments are at present scattered all over Wellington in such a manner as to prevent prompt despatch of public business.
