BIBLE CLASS SOCIAL.
A successful winter social was held last evening by the YoungWomen’s Bible Class of the Presbyterian Church, in the St. Andrew’s School. There were about 50 present. About twenty Bible Class members from Waipawa were present by invitation. A feature of the entertainment was a whistling competition. The gentlemen present, arranged in a row, each whistled a separate tune, and all whistled at the same time. The ladies had to listen and distinguish the tunes, the one first discovering a tune winning the game. Miss McKinnon, of Waipawa, was declared the winner. Another feature of the evening was telling humorous stories. Each person was to tell a joke. These were of a high order and would have delighted Mr Punch. The successful competitor was Mrs Young-, who was awarded a suitable prize. The Rev. J. Pattison gave a short address, setting forth the objects of the Bible Class, and urged all present to help in this good work. Refreshments were handed round, various games indulged in and altogether a very pleasant evening- was passed. The social was brought to a conclusion by the singing of “ God Save the King.”
