WANGANUI EAST BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting o£ the Wanganui Hast, Borough Council was held last evening, there being .present:—His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Jones), and ' Crs Wickham, Heaven, O’Leary, Willis, Benefield, Burton, and Thompson. An apology was received from Or McCanl. GENEBAL. The drainage committee’s report was adopted. It was decided to call for tenders for the supply of water pipes in one contract, to be delivered where required on the ground. The tender of Wisnowski Bros, and O’Shannessey, at T372 7s 6d, was accepted for the laying of drainage pipes. 'I he only other tender received for the work was exactly double that of the accepted tender. Mr W. 11, Wilson’ tender for ’he arriage of pipes was accepted. Three clhcr tenders were received. Several letters dealing with routine matters were dealt with., .The Mayor and Town Clerk were authorised to affix the seal of the Borough to an agreement between the Council and its engineer (Mr Muir) Mr B. Neilson wrote asking that fl footpath in front of his residence on the tliver Bonk he improved, as he alleged ' it was a danger to pedestrians that used i*at present.—The foreman was instructed to remedy the matter complained of by “battering off” the edge of flic side of the road. ' Mr 0 . H. Needham. Kaiinatira Bond, forwarded an application for an artesian water supply.—-The Council decided, owing to the distance from the Arles-well, that it could not accede to his request, but waa prepared to consider a joint service. Cr Willis handed in his resignation. Ho explained that row his firm had been made a limited liability company he suffered the disabilities of the recent legislation affecting members of local bodies. The Mayor regretted exceedingly that Cr Willis "should have to resign, and paid a tribute to his worth as a member of the Council. The other members of the Council endorsed these remarks. FOHEMAN’S BEPOET. The foreman reported as follows:—Since last meeting we have shifted slips on Mt. View and Wairete Bonds. The first-named wants metalling from Mr Snow’s pit to Matarawa Bead, as mentioned in my last report,and as there are 400 yards due to von from Mr Snow, I would like your advice in the matter. We are at present forming footpaths on the Eiver Bank Toad, The soil taken from these will pay for the formation. We cleared water tables and filled in ruts where necessary.—'The report was adopted.
