WANGANUI RIVER SERVICE.

Messrs Hatrick and Co., Ltd., will next month place on the Taumaranui section of the river—that is, Taumaranui to the houseboat—a line new steel vessel, similar; in all respects to the Waireka, except that, she has slightly morp beam, and is a few feet longer. This'boat is now . completed oh the slipway at Wanganui ready for, launching. The advent of this new vessel will permit the running of a more frequent service during the tourist season. Starting from November Ist, the service will •bo three times a week from Taumaruiiui to the houseboat, and from December. Ist five days a' week. From that date Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays will be special tourist days, the boat stopping on the down trip at Aukopai and, Kokakonui, and Wednesdays and Fridays will be special wayside landings with cargo, or passengers. The position will thus .be that from December Ist wayside passengers can go down on five days. Aukopai and Kokakonui settlers can travel up and down on five days. On the Wednesdays and Fridays -the boat -will not leave until 9 a.m.; oa the other’days it will leave as at present, viz., 6.45 a.m. This new timetable will also fill a much needed tourist requirement; " Those who objectto the ..early morning start on the Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays after the previous Ipng day from Taupo to Taumarunni, via Tokaanu and Waiouru, can, if ’.icy go desire, fit in their itinerary for the days on which the start is at a later hour, stay'at the comfortable arid up-to-date hpusehpat overnight, going ou the following - day at nbori to Fipiriki, thus: taking the river in easy stages.
