BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the weekly meeting, held on Wednesday, November 2Gth, present the Mayor and Crs. Sheehau, Munsou, Whyte, Blacklock, Thorpe, and Organ, the following business was transacted. COREEsPOKDENCE. From Cr. Suisted requesting six weeks leave of absence. Granted unanimously. From the Town Clerk of Wanganui referring to the sale of lands within Municipal boundaries, and claim of the funds accruing therefrom by the Wellington Provincial Council, with the exception of price obtained for reserves made when the town was originally mapped out. Application from the Albion Coal Company for three and half chains of frontage on the river Buller for wharfage purposes, commencing from wharf site already granted opposite the end of Brougham street. And also for permission to occupy, under lease or otherwise, an area of not less than one acre as a coal depot. —'Consideration defen ed. AT.LOTMEiS'T OF SECTION'S. The Mayor, on behalf of the Section Committee, reoorted that sections in Adderlev street, Nos. 106, 132, 133, 134., 135, 136, 137, 138, 107, 175, and 170, had been allotted to applicants now living in the Kennedy and Wallabi street block.

Moved by the Mnyor, seconded by Cr, Sheahan, and carried, " That the Town Clerk inform Mrs Mary Morris that a site had been allotted her in lieu of part of section |loi< Wallabi street."

Moved by Cr. Thorpe, seconded by Cr. Whyte, and carried, " That all applications from householders living outside the Wallabi and Kennedy street block, should be referred to the Section Committee for report thereon. EIRE BRIGADE. Moved by Cr. Whyte, seconded by Cr. Sheahan and carried, " That the letter from the Secretary of the Eire Brigade be acknowledged, and the Brigade informed that the Council is unable at present to grant the application for assistance towards purchase of fire bell, owing to want of fuuds. VALUATORS FEES. Proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Cr. Whyte, That 50 per cent of the valuers' charges be paid them. Amendment by Cr. Organ, seconded by Cr. Thorpe, That 75 per cent be paid. Eor the amendment three votes were given, and for the motion four. Motion declared carried. PUBLIC WORKS. Part I. of the Committee's report, having reference to protections was adopted. Clause 11. having reference to loan for wharf purposes, was held over for further consideration. Clause 111. Wakefield street wharves and compensation to builder thereof.— Deferred.

Applications for river frontages:— Proposed by Cr. Organ, seconded by Cr. Black] ock, and carried, That the Town Clerk be instructed to communicate to the several applicants for wharf sites that the Council has resolved to grant no rights whatever of the kind applied for, pending action of the General Government in the building of protective works. An amendment by Cr. Whyte, and seconded by Cr. Thorpe, was lost. The amendment being:—That owing to the number of applications made to the Council for wharfage accommodation on the banks of the Buller river the Minister of Public Works be communicated with as to the intentions of the government as to granting wharfage accomodation, in order that suitable replies may be made to applicants, and that the views of the Council on the subject be transmitted at same time for the consideration of the government. Cr. Thorpe's motion for the improvement of sec ion of Bright street between Palmerston and Queen street were lost. Two voting for it and four against it. NOTICES OF MOTION. By Cr. Sheahan (in reference to permission to be obtained of the Council for use of buildings for public meetings or amusements after midnight or before 8 a.m. in the morning), That he would move insertion of the clause, '' Provided however that nothing herein contained shall apply to or affect Licensed Hole s, nor interfere with the operation of the Licensing Ait. By the Mayor: That the entrance to the gravel pit facing Palmerston street be opened up and made suitable for dray traffic.
