[Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agency] CHARLESTON, November 26. The Provincial Council elections took place to-day, with the following result; —
GREI MOUTH, November 27. The Argus, commenting on unanimity of Colonial Press regarding O'Conor, says that even excusable neutrality had to give way, and was impelled to take a stand by the taunts and mis-representations which arethe candidate's fault and forte. It says the Westport Times has spoken out. Spoken out in language which, for spirit, plainness, and dignity* is a credit to its conductors ; and comparable with anything which has been written on the subject of this election. REEFTON, November 27, 7.30 p.m. The following is the result of the Provincial Council election yesterday : Joseph Ivess, 157; Dou De La Carreras, 113. Majority for Ivess, 44 Declaration of the poll to day at twelve o'clock. Mr Ivess addressed the electors. Mr Carreras did not appear. NELSON. Nov. 27th, 8.30 p.m. Over 4000 persons visited the exhibition since noon. Judge Richmond delivered an interesting impromptu address. Theme being centenary of Ciptain Cook's secui.d departure from New Zealand. CHRrSTCHURCH. The Amuii Sjparation Committee have resolved tj support Curtis for the
Suporintendcncy of Nelson, believing that if elected he will use his utmost inllueii'-.e to secure for the district the fixing of a proportion of the revenue for local administration. A deputation was appointed to wait on Mr VogSl to ask if the General Government will bring in a bill securing a fixed proportion of all revenue from tbe Amuri district for local administration.
AUCKLAND. Commissioner Kemp has purchased twenty thousand acres of coal-bearing uative land, near Kawahawa, on behalf of the Government. Specimens of the coal have been forwarded to Dv Hector to report. Mr Williamson, the new Superintendent, has joined the Good Templars Lodge.
WELLINGTON, The Provincial Government are taking energetic steps towards having a large block of land at Mar ton set apart for sale.
