BULLER COAL AND RAILWAY COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the committee was held on Tuesday evening last. Mr James Powell in the chair. The principal business transacted was the discussion of certain memoranda left by Dr Hector, in the hands of the Secretary, having reference to the probable chances of any present action been taken by the Government, authorising the construction of the proposed railway to the Ngakawhau. It was decided that the Secretary should telegraph to his Honor the Superintendent soliciting his advice as to any present action to be taken by the committee.

In reply the following telegram was received yesterday. " J. W. Humphrey, Esq., " Kail way Npakaarhau to Westport. I saw the Minister of Public Works on this question in Wellington last week. The Government will not consider the matter till Dr Hector has reported, therefore I think a deputation could do no good at present, nor in view of opening; of Provincial Council could I leave Nelson just now. Dr Hector is at Collingwood, and will probably leave Nelson for Wellington about the 23rd instant. I could accompany deputation to Wellington during the sitting of Provincial Council if necessary. "Oswald Curtis, " Superintendent."
