A teacher was talking to her schol irs regarding the order of the h'g'ier beings. It was a very profitable s lbject, and one iu which the children took an uncommon interest. She told them that the angels came first in perfection; and when she asked them who came next, and was readily answered by one boy " Man," she felt encouraged to ask, What comes next to man ? and here a little shaver, who was evidently smarting under a defeat in the preceding question, immediately distanced all competition by promptly shouting, " His under-shirt, ma'am ?" Pat Morris was one day hurrying through a thunder storm to get out of the rain. Two boys, one each side of the street, were amusing themselves with throwing decayed tomatoes at one another from their respective barns, and just as Pat was passing, a huge tomato struck him on the ear. A terrible thunder-clap at the same time caused Pat to stagger and roar, " Oh, bedad, Pm struck ! Pm dead ! Oil, me brains !" and into a ditch he stumbled; there he floundered for a few moments, but recovered his wits on seeing the seeds of the tomato, and the naughty boys grinning as they emerged from the barns. Pat said—"The sensation was awful, to be struck down so suddenly, right in the prime of life, bedad !*'
