A LUXURIOUS STEAMER.
Tha steamer Plymouth Rock, of the old Stonington line, was purchased by James Fisk, and placed on the route between New York and Long 3ranch. She is 317 ft. long, and has a breadth over all of 73ft. The 'The York Tribune' speaking of her, says :—" The boat has been furnished and fitted as no boat has ever been furnished and fitted before, involving au expenditure in this department alone of 75,000d015. Mr Eiske is the Napoleon of paint and whitewash, of gorgeous upholstery and goldleaf. On the Plymouth Rock, Brussels carpets wanton over polished floors. White and gold plate, glass, and Corinthian capitals meet one at every turn. The glass globe which covers every gas-burner in the saloon in embellished by golden figures, and cost of itself eight dols. As the traveller sits down to a sumptuous repast in the banquet hall, he chooses his wine from a list printed in dainty type on tinted paper, and bound in green and gold morocco. As he ascends the polished stah's, bronze master-pieces of art upholding gas jets stare him stolidly in the face ; and as he takes a surreptitious peep in the saloon glass he encounters by his side the wooden glare of the colossal black walnut Charles the ninth, and that other armored ancient of the same material who once drew crowds to the window of a Broadway jeweller. If he be of a musical turn, he may play upon the most amazing piano he ever saw in his life—ebony and gold, with bronze bas reliefs and embossed legs. Everything is gorgeous—top, bottom, and sides —from the engine room, which resembles an exhibitionof a prize machinery, to the pilot house, which looks like the cabin of a royal yacht."
