(fbom our own cobbespondents.) GREYMOUTH. June 24. The ' Grey Argus ' this morning has a leader on O'Conor. It says " the subject will doubtlessly be referred to in the Assembly, during the forthcoming session, and will most materially weaken any influence for good that, as a member of the House of Representatives for the West Coast of this island, he might otherwise have possessed. It is hoped that his own good sense, if he has any, will lead to his early resignation. Failing this it is equally the interest and the duty of those who returned him to request him to give up his seat. One thing is certain, that even with the shadiest of the shady politicians, who frequent the Legislative halls of Wellington, he will in future, have no might or prestige." CHARLESTON. June 24. Mr O'Conor at his meeting made a similar defence as at Nelson, but villified Reid and Co. for suppressing the case, and only giving one side. Said the Committee's report was a false lying report, and that Reid's evidence was lying. Mr Keenan proposed a motion for enquiry. Mr Gillespie wanted to know if we were to believe Mr O'Conor against other honorable gentlemen ; amongst others Mr Kynnersley, whose name was received with prolonged and unanimous applause. He proposed a vote of censure. Mr Dwan censured O'Conor for seeking, outside, his countrymen's sympathy, and wanted to know what West port conduct had to do with Charleston. He moved that the meeting should suspend judgement until the public had heard Mr Donne. He also defended the press. He said Mr O'Conor should either have sold his honor and kept his sections or backed out. Amidst shouting and cheering, Mr Dwan's motion was carried. Mr Henderson was in the chair. Mr O'Conor is now going round with petition. >< NELSON. June 54. Mr O'Conor's case against five members of the Council came on today. No appearance for plaintiff. Henry Adams for four defendants. Donne for himself, applied for costs. Costs to Adams, £ll 175., to Donne, £lO. Total £2l 17s.
