The Native meeting was concluded yesterday, and another is to be held shortly to which the Governor will be invited. A letter was received this morning from Ngapuhi demanding Todd's murderers. The Friendlies were detained to discuss the surrendering of them; neither Manuhiri nor Tawhiaio took part in the meeting. Manga and Raihuana Wahanui were the principal speakers. 4-30 p.m. The Native meeting is concluded. The Ngapuhi's letter was read yesterday, but no discussion ensued upon it. The murderers of Todd are not to be given up. The Ptiendlies are returning. Auckland, Sept. 23. In consquence of an article in the " Star," Samuel Warren horsewhipped TJtting of the " Herald" in the theatre. He afterwards made an humble apology on learning that TJtting was not the writer of the defamatory article. Next day, Neville Walker struck Breet in the " Star" office, but was well thrashed—one of his teeth was knocked out,and having answeredtoan information, was fined £lO and bound over to keep the peace for six months. Caledonians, £125 ; Thames, £2l. Wellington, Sept. 23. Shortly after midnight of yesterday, a motion of want of confidence was brought forward resulting, upon a division in a not altogether unexpected majority for the Ministry. The ayes were 15 and the noes 48, showing a balance of 28 in favour of the Government. John White, representative for Hokitika, and E. J. O' Conor, the member for Westland North were absent; Harrison, the member for the Grey Valley, and Tribe for Totara, supported the Government.
