GIRLS' COLLEGIATE SCHOOL.
OXFORD HOUSE.
This morning at 10 o'clock, tlio pupils of the Girls' College, Masterton, and several visitors metatOxford House, where the annual prizes wore distributed by the Rev. A., C. Yorke. The principal teacher's report was read by Mr Yorke, in which Miss Shepherd stated how pleased she was at the great progress the girls had made, at the same time regretting tho fact that illness had prevented tlio regular attendance of many of them during the year. She also thanked the Vicar for his addresses to tho school every week, and for the special prize he offered for reading. The Rev. J. D. Russell also gave a special prize for scripture, Mrs F. G. Moore for Latin, and a Melbourne lady for general improvement.
Mr Yorke, who judged the reading, said that most of the girls read exceptionally well, and mentioned specially Emma Black, Joan Bennington and Lillian Rawson. Ho awarded the prize to Marian Haywood, whose reading ho praised very highly. This young lady also won the special Scripture prize, Mr Russell giving her high mention. Another Scripture paper was done so well that Mr Ikssell presented a second prize, the lucky winner being Alice Paylon. Mr Yorko gave a short address and then distributed the many handsome books (which were placed on a small table at one side of the room) amidst groat excitement.
