A SURVEYOR'S NICE EXPERIENCE.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent). Texui, Wednesday. Near tho classic ruins of thoTenui Bridge is situated the ford or crossing place of the Tenui river, The lands bounding the crossing are owned by Mr Pahick O'Connor, aud tho County Council have been for some lime negotiating for the land, and sent Mr Hawson, Surveyor, soino time ago, to survey the portion to bo taken under tho " Roads and Bridges Act," but ho was drivon off as a trespasser.
To-day Mr W. Andrew, survoyor, commenced surveying the laud, and be met with a like reception, and got in addition, his surveying chnin cut in twain by a fell stroke from an axe wielded by the muscular arm of Mrs O'Connor. He beat a retreat and is now awaiting further orders.
