CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED WIFE-POISONING.

This afternoon the polico arrested Alexias Menend, cook on tho tho LytteJton Harbour Board's tug, on a charge of attempting to poison his wife, who is now in thoChristchurch Hospital. The police, in searching Mencnd's house, found a complete apparatus for the distillation of liquor, and three casks of some liquid which accused said was elderberry wine, but which has not yet been tested, Accused will be brought up on the two charges to-morrow.
