j A special meeting of St. John's ! Vestry was held on Friday evening to consider the tenders for the lease of the church acre in Fox-street. Thero were only two tenders received, viz,: C. Kent-Johnston, £3 per annum, accepted, and W. Dalrymple, £2 12s (3d, declined.

The usual monthly meeting of tlie Road Board was held on Saturday, Present—Wardens Matthews (chairman), Jas. Donald, W. J. Nix, T. F. Evans, W, E. Bidwill, Jas. McLeod, E, R. Harris, and J. P, Russell. The Treasurer reported a debit balance of £527 10s 7d, and £2li)18s Cd of accounts woro. passed for payment-, The usual routine business was gono through.

Mr fliddiford has returned the cheque, and states that lie never authorised the pile-driver to be borrowed, and asks to bo allowed to address the Board again, on the matter. To allow Mr Riddiford to do this, Mr Harris has given notice of motion for the next meeting, to rescind the former resolution relating to the stopping of the cost of the pile-driver from Mr IliddifortJs cheque.

Mckenzie, complaining that tho custodian of the Moroa course was favoring the Clreytown horses more than the Tauherenikau ones, by moving the tressils on tho approach of the latter horses, thereby making them run on the stoney part of the track.—Resolved that the custodian be asked for an explanation.

From J. Cooper who was disqualified for breaking a look on tho Moroa Course asking again for his

disqualification to be removed.— Resolved that the stewards could not see their way at present to remove the disqualification, The subject of races being held ou Christmas Day was adversely criticised, and it was resolved that' this Club disapprove of races being hold [on Christmas Bay','

It was resolved to allow trainers to gallop on the grass course by obtuiningapcrmit from Mr Wilkinson; also that the starting machine be erected a few days before the races so that horses may be allowed to got used to it.

The following were the successful tenderers for tho privileges: - Featherston Band for the Summer Meeting, and the Greytown Band at tlio Autumn Meeting, at £lO each ; fancj' and fruit stall, £l4, Gr. Coker; horse yards, £2B, J. T. Hodder; cards, £SO, J. T. Hoddergrandstand luncheon booth, £l2; afternoon tea |;ent, £6; inside and outside publican's hooth, £ls 10s, 11, Duff; gates, £125105, J. McCarty and J. Barr.

A meeting of the Tauherenikau Race-course Committee was lield at theEmpiro Hotel, Present-Messrs H. S. Wardoll, (chairman), A. Maithews, J. P. Russell, G. T. F. Hutton, J. Bidwill, and W. Bock (secretary.) The Treasurer reported the balance in hand as £32 Os 9d. Accounts amounting to £l3 ll'i were passed for payment. It was resolved to apply to tho Chairman of tho School Committee for the school children to bo allowed to attend, and that Mr Buchanan, be asked to bo present and givo an address.
