THE TOWN LANDS TRUST.
MR LOWES' SEAT DECLARED VACANT, At yesterday's meeting of the Masterton Town Lands Trustees, Mr W. Lowes carao in rathor late, The Chairman (MrC, E.Daniell) said ho was very sorry but it appeared that Mr Lowes had lost his seat through absonce without leave from three successive meetings. Mr Lowes said he was quite unaware of this, and would at once withdraw, but he had left instructions with the Clerk to apologise for bim.
Tho Clerk said that apology for Mr Lowes absence had been made, but no motion granting leave of absonco had been passed. Tho Chairman said it had been his intention to move such a motion at last meeting, but he had overlooked it.
Mr Lowes said that he was under the impression considering his illhealth and that ho had asked the Clerk to apologise, that leave would havo been granted. Had ho known or in the least suspected that lie was no longer a member, lio would not ftbbave travelled fifty miles at great Mnconvenience, in bis delicate state of health, to bo present that afternoon, However, he did not blame anyone, bnt would wish them goodbyo and hoped their plans and deliberations would be thoroughly j successful. As Mr Lowes was leaving the chamber MrHessev said- "We hope to see you back again soon. Sir," to which Mr Lowes replied—" Never! Sir," and again wishing the Trustees " Good afternoon," he went out, Mr Daniell expressed veiy great regret at such a Taluable member losing his seat through an oversight, Mr Homblow moyed that Mr Lowes valuable services as a member of the Trust bo recorded oh the minutes, and a letter containing the motion be sent him, also conveying the regret of the Trustees at losing bis services. Mr Vile seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously,
