TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.
THE LATE COMMITTEE'S REPORT ADOPTED,
A SPLIT IK THE CAMP,
At yesterday's meeting of the Masterton Town Lands Trustees, Mr C. IS, Daniell moved that the report of the Committeo on Technical Education be adopted, and that the report be referred back to the Committee, with the request that they would further develop their scheme by considering their proposals in connection with the Manual and Technical Instruction Act of last session. Mr Hornhlow asked whether this resolution would commit the Trust to any fixed expenditure. The Chairman said it would not, but- would commit the Trust to support proposals for Technical Education. Mr Vile said that he should certainly oppose the motion, as ho thought the Committee, as now constituted would wreck any scheme, owing to differences of opinion. One man on the Committee wished to havo the whole thing done his way, or not at nil. He was not opposed to the principles of Technical Education, however, but thought they ought to approach the Education Board, under the Act of lastsession. The Chairman said perhaps the Committee might be re-constituted. Mr Hornblow said, while admiring Mr Vilc's outspokenness, he thought he should go further and name the man ho alluded to. It was not fair to the other members of the Committee, many of whom he highly respected. Mr Vile said he agreed with much in the report submitted and had signed it, But he thought the Committee required construction. He fas filling to retire from the Committeo himself and allow the remaining names to bo committed. Mr Daniell then altered his motion to " That a Committee be appointed to further develop the scheme." Considerable discussion ensued. Mr Vile explained that all he objected to, was to ask the present Committee to go further, . TJto Chairman thought a scheme Jrjnigbt bo eventually worked in conI junction with tho Education Board, Mr Hornblow said, from what had fallen at the meeting, ho thought thoy had better drop tho question altogether, It was evident that tho thing could not be brought to a successful issuo, Mr Hessey said it was a question of money. He was not opposing the principlo of Technical Education, but thought the scheme unworkable by the Trust, for want of funds. Mr Hornblow said it was not right to support a scheme ono day and pick holes in it tho next. Mr Vile said he did not opposo the report in the least, He proposed as an amendment that the report of the committee on Technical Education be adopted and forwarded to the Education Board, with a request that the Board be asked to carry out tho suggestions therein, and that tho Trust offer to subsidise the Board's efforts.-Not seconded, After more discussion a further ftjtiendmept "That the report be adopted'' waß carried, " The Chaii'man remarked that aftei alfthis they fere in fhe saine positipn as before.
