Several warrants have been issued for tho an eat of James Gordon Baker, late Sergeant-Major of the Permanent Forces, on charges of forgery and obtaining money under false pretences. Over £15,000 is involved. Baker left in the German steamer due in London to-day, but covered up his trail by numerous letters coming from Coolgardio. It is believed he despatched servants there with the letters, In theso he professed regret for his misdoings, but said as ho was managing a good mine he would be able to square up with everybody. Abused is a nephew of Colonel : Valentina .Baker. His father is a retired War Office pensioner.
