GREYTOWN NEWS.
From Our Own Camtjmtdent. Thursday. An unusually heavy gale blew i here last night and this morning, causing slight damage in various directions. It has been raining on the Tararnas since yesterday, and in frequence of which all the rivers ■in flood. The Waiohine River ird are to be highly congratulated on the splendid way in which they have fought tlio river. A few years ago, with a similar storm, ' *. as was experienced last night, together with the warm rain causing the snow to melt, the northern end of the town would have been Hooded, But thanks to the Board's work, wo are quite free from the iloods. There are other works that need urgent attention, and aro entirely neglected, while this needless expenditure is allowed to go on. The election of three Councillors is proceeding. There are four candidates—three retiring and one , new man, Mr Dudding. It is a great pity that tho ratepayers are so apathetic in matters that should be of the greatest interest to them. What is wanted is new blood, and unless they get new blood they must expect to see things remain as they are. The Wesleyan Quarterly Meeting ' was held this afternoon, when the Rev. Mr Baumber, Chairman of the District, was in attendance. Tonight a public meeting will be held in the Church, when tho usual addresses, etc., will be given,
