MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

HORSE PARADE.

Tho .stallion parade hold yesterday under the auspices of tho Mastcrton A. and P. Association was for once favoured with lino weather, and being held at Messrs Lowes and lorns sale yards, and on the occasion of their usual fortnightly sale, the attendance of the public was large, and considerable interest was taken in the various horses paraded. The number of stallions on the ground was twelve, including the trotting hoise" Young Boston," and Messrs

Tilsou uml Mcß'trbinc's Clydesdale, " Premier," which were submitted tor sale miller the hammer, but failed to find purchasers. Of the horses paraded there wero two thoroughbrads, three trotters, two carriage itallions, and three Clydesdales, mill each and all of them were in the pink of condition, and valuable animals in their class. The trotting horses, Chicago and Young Berlin; the coachers, Robin Hood ami The Srpiiie; and the Clydesdales, Hero and licnfrow Jock, were dealt with in our notes of the Carterton Parade. Suffice it to say that in yesterday's sunshine tliey all showed to considerably more advantage than in the horse sheds 011 the Carterton Show Ground As usual, in a community where racing stock is hugely bred, the thoroughbreds came in for a largo amount of the public attention and criticism, and the representatives present were indeed line horses, which have left their mark on the turf register. For fashionable breeding, it will bo hard to find a hotter horse than Mr B. Cave's

)l Kit I! IE KN'GUXDj whose performances as a threo-ycar old are still fresh in the memory of all who take any interest iu racing. In a late copy of tlio L'cjhre "Spectator" deals with the pedigree of Merrie England and sums up as follows " A better combination of miming blood it would be impossible lo get, The Irish Birdcatclier stands out prominent with that of tlio famous old Ynttondon and The Bay Middleton—Flying Dutchman strains, Australians swear by their Yatteudon horses as Now Zealanders are apt to do by their Traducor and Musket crosses, and well may tliey. But for Yatteudon there would have been' 110 Chesters, 110 Abercorns, Acmes, Carlyons, Dreadnoughts, Cranbroofcs, and Metric Bnglauds, and the lattor was undoubtedly the host of St. George's sons that ever graced New Zealand racecourses. 1 The breeders of the Wairarapa are fortunate in having such a highly bred and well performed horse within easy reach of thorn." Asa fast performer on the turf no horse is better known in the district than Mr C. Lyford's

s FORESTER, , who holds the record in New Zealand for five furlongs. Forester has beon absent from tlio district for some . ti|iie ( apd his re-appearance this season will be welcomed by breedors, for his stock have already proved 1 real good ones. Forester looked particularly well yesterday, and there is little doubt his services will be greatly sought. Forester is a dark chestnut standing 16 hands 2 inches; sire, Puriri; dam, Gossip. Forester's performances are so wollktiown to Wnirarapa breeders that further reference is not necessary.- ' lllilCKTltOttX, by Bluegown, the property of Mr H, Nse/of Masterton, is a handsome ftnit compact bay trotting 1 stallion, bred in Oatit'erbiii'y.'' He'has not bion raced, and his sorvicos for tlio pro: sent nensoii will be confined to a few selected mares. The only representative of the Te Ore Ore stables was THE MACOHEGOK, who was in excellent form although he is in constant work, a fact which speaks well for the horse's constitution,,and which will carry consider- 1 ablo weight with judicious .breeders, 1
