FIRE IN MASTERTON
An unoccupied cottage in Chapelstreet, Masterton, owned by Mrs S. Jlounslow, was totally destroyed by lire on Sunday morning last, at a.m. When first noticed, the lire had a very firm hold on the building, and although the Biigades were speedily out, before water could be obtained the structure was nearly consumed. The cottage of ill Kit/,simrnons on the one side and Hounslow House on the other, both narrowly escaped destruction. The oiigin of the lire is a complete mystery, as the building was unoccupied. Tenders for a new roof and general repairs hud only just been let, AVe understand that the cottage was insured for £l5O in the National Office, of which Messrs Lowes and loins are the Musterton agents. The police are of opinion that the lire is the work of an incendiary, as the tracks of a man have been discovered from the buck fence to the cottage, and it is alleged that there was a strong smell of kerosene when the lire first broke out,
