Ho recommended Cape Adair as the base for a south polar expedition. Dogs and sledges could reach beyond the south magnetic pole. Ho offered to lead a landing party to Capo Adair. He estimated the extent of Victoria land at eight million square miles. The Committee of tko Conference passed a rcsolitioh that tho Antarctic region was tho greatest piece of exploration which still could be undertaken, and recommended the scientific societies of the world to take it in hand before the close of tho century. Borchgrovinck's paper wns favourably discussed.
Hamniston, who is financing Jackson's north polar expedition, is willing to contribute to tho Antarctic research, and he believes Australia will subscribe largely.
