By Telegraph.—Oia Correspondent. Pauiatua, Wednesday. A well-attended public meeting was held last evening to considor matter in connection with the road over tho range to connect Pahiatua with l'almerstou North. Mr Vila '' occupied the chair. A resolution was passed to the effect that the road was of vast importanco to the district,its character was such tliat it, BLoutd. be undertaken by the Government. The Mayor and Messrs Hogg and Pirani wore appointed to present the resolution to the Minister of Lands. The meeting was most enthusiastic.

The social hi connection with the opening of the new Presbyterian / Church building, in Pahiatna, was held last evening and was largely attended and a gicat success. Amongst those present were tho Keys. Philip, Putersou, Murray and Grillm.

A challenge debate takes place this evening between the noka and Pahiatua SocietieAn "Socialism." *
