A NICE CAPTAIN.
MEiiiiotMK, June 22, Evidenco at the onquiry into tho voyage of the Aberfoyle, shows that the Captain tried, without success, to secure a second mate before sailing. He consumed forty-five bottles of rum in twenty-four days. The vessel narrowly escaped going ashore at Shorthands. The boatswain considered that if the captain had done his duty in shortening sail in a hurricane, the mato would not have lost hislifo.;Thocarpentorcorro ; bated this, aud added that tho captain said if ho did not sign the log, lie (the captain) would get intoaJK of trouble at Melbourne, and thatM "would sail the ship to heaven or hell." He also threatened to blow witness' brains out.
