WAIPOUA RIVER ENCROACH MENT.

In response to an advertisement, inviting those interested in the question of protecting the southern bank of tho Waipoua River from further encroachment, Messrs G. E Daniell, 1, M. Iloar, J. L, Murray, W, H. Cole, J. Pickett, A, W, Bonall and Mrs Pickett, met His Worship, the Mayor and Crs "Feist, WaggLflnd Hornblow at tho Borough Chancers this morning toconfer on the matter. The .Mayor said he understood they had met to confer on the question of protecting Villa Street, Hopo Street and Bentley Street particularly, and to learn what the residents wero prepared to contribute, He thought more of those interested should have attended, or have sent a message saying what they intended contributing.

On the suggestion of Mr Daniell, an adjournment, was then made to tho river bank, to viow the damage done by the late Hoods. After viewing the river it was decided that protective works at this point wero necessary. Sums amounting to about £23 were subscribed, and with amounts to como in, and assistance promised by the' Council, the estimated cost of the works suggested by Mr Daniell (£7O), should be easily raised. Mr U. E. Bremner will probably be asked to give his advice on the matter. k
