The Executive Council has commuted the sentence ef death passed on George Dean for attempting to poison his wife at North Shore, to imprisonment for life. BcreircA April 18,10.10 a in. Sydney, April 18, In Parliament in reference to Dean's case the Attorney-General said he had received a letter purporting to have been written by Mrs Dean, stating that under pressure by her mother she gave false testimony against her husband, and tried to ruin him, and that ho had been wrongly judged, Herconscience pricked her, and she asked that he should be liberated. Mr Want had the contents dictated to her, and obtained a written denial that she had penned or authorised the writing of the letter, Mr Want stated everything possible in the interests of Doan was done, but the man had proved his own guilt in tlio witness box,
