QUARTERLY RETURNS.
The quarterly return, just prepared by Mr F. H.-Ibbetson, shows tho number of sittings to havo been 47, of this number 23 were presided ovor by tho S.M., and 24by Justices. There were 48 civil cases dealt with, and 102 criminal cases. Of the criminal prosecutions 58 were sumarily convicted; 17 were discharged for want of evidence; 12 dismissed on their merits; 7 committed for trial; and 9 otherwise dealt with.
The criminal fees and fines paid amounted to £4l 9s. In the civil cases the amount sued for was £985 8s 9d, and the amount lccovored £478 Gs 4d, Tho number .of plaints was 1471; distress warrants, 9; judgment summonses, 6. The amount of civil fees paid in stamps was £BO 17s, and £2 15s for licensing fees.
