A SERIOUS CHARGE
ALLEGED CRIMINAL ASSAULT.
Last evening tho Masterton polico were informed that a serious offence had taken place at the residence of Mr Perrin, Villa Street, and from information received a young man giving his name as Henry James Scknellcwas arrested on a chargo of criminal assault.
This morning accused was brought before Mr S. Donovan, J.P., and formally charged with feloniously and violently assaulting one Fanny Wallis, aged 21 years, domestic servant in the employ of Mrs Perrin,
Sergeant McArdle applied for a remand until 10 a.m. to-morrow.
Accused said he would prefer the case to go on at once. Sergeaut McArdle said it was impossible to go on at present. Accused applied to be released on bail, but tho police opposed, and tho request was not granted.
Accused is a young man, supposed to have come from Sydnoy, and moro recently from Wellington and Christchurch, He has lately been canvassing Masterton with a pianoforte attachment for vamping, and will therefore bo known to many of our readers.
