THE BARNARDO SALE OF WORK.

The Barnardo sale of work iu tho Temperance Hall was a great success yesterday, and mnch credit is due to the ladies for the special manner in which the affair was carried out. In the afternoon the building was well filled, and the stallholders pronounced business to be exceptionally good. There was hardly standing room in the evening, and by ten o'clock most of the stalls were almost bare. During the evening there were musical items, Mr C. Ginders gave a capital song. Mrs W, Butemeut's rendering of" The Carnival" with violin obligato, by Mr j. Mowlem, was an immenso success, being tho gem of the evening. This item received a decided encore and Mrs Butoment responded with "Fiddle and I," Later in the evening Mr Mowlem gave a violin solo in his usual masterly style. Two short addresses were given by the Revs, Dukes and Wood respecting the great work Dr Barnardo is doing and upon mission work in general. About ten the Hall began to clear, everyone agreeing that a most enjoyable and profitable evening had boen spent.

The proceeds more than realize tho modest oxpectationsof the promoters, In addition to the names givon in our last, Mesdames Tabuteau, Chennels, and Simms require mention. The Committee were much indebted to Mr J. Symes for a considerable amount of willing help. The total proceeds of the sale amount to about £25, but as all the returns are not yet in the ciact sum cannot bo stated.
