FOOTBALL NOTES.
[llY DAMOCLKS.] Mr W, White lias been elected captain of the Ponekc Club, Wellington. Mr C. Earle, a prominent member of the Sehvyn Club lust season, is now stationed at Cireytowu, and will don the local colors this season. Football has already commenced in Masterton, and the Park Oval has been well used during the past few moonlight evenings. The "small fry " especially arc greatly in evidence. Mr G. B Luslc, who played threequarter for the New South Wales representative team which visited New Zealand last season, has joined the Poneke Club. The Queensland representatives are to visit New Zealand at the end of the coming season, McE wen, formerly of the Carterton Rivals, has joined the Melrose Club. It' is to bo hoped a Moroe's Association will be formed in the Wairarapathis season, and the difficulty of choosing a referee by Clubs interested done away with altogether. 1 shall have more to say on this question in future notes, Tho East Christcliurch team are to visit Wellington :it Easter, to keep their annual engagement with the Poneke Club. There are in England and Wales no less than 14,960 Football Clubs, representing about 745,000 active players. It is stated that Groytown will be stronger than ever this year, and the Club's list of membership will be considerably strengthened be employees, who now enjoy the Saturday half-holiday, A Bill has been introduced into the Californian Legislature this year, making football unlawful, on account of the physical injuries received by the players of the game, Mr J. Morris has been elected Captain, and Mr J. Emmett, viceCaptain of the Red Star Club. They will this year have a membership of over fifty players, and intend making another bold bid for the championships. A meeting of the Masterton Club takes place on Saturday evening.
