COMMERCIAL.

Messrs R. E. Hornblow & Co., auctioneers aud produce merchants, report as follows, forweok ending Saturday, March 9th Taken altogether, businessin every branch, has been good. Our auction sales in Eketahuna and Masterton, were well attended, aud satisfactory prices realized. Produce of every description still shows a downward tendency. In oats, wo placed two large lines of 500 and 1000 bushels, at Is (id and Is 7d, for cash. During tho coming week, wo expect large consignments of grain, and do not hold out any hopes of better prices. Potatoes are quite a drug in the market, and can be purchased wholesale, at almost any price. Poultry weut up with a run on Saturday, prices being equal our Christmas sales. Horses were conspicuous by their absence at our horse fair on Saturday and strange to say we had a larger number of buyers than for some time past. Our land department still keeps to the front aud we expect to place three properties during the next few days as a result of last week's enquiries, Butter and eggs remain at our previous quotation and we can do with a couplo of hundred dozen of the latter at our quotation. Grass seeds are in demand, good prices being obtained for all sorts, with the exception of cocksfoot, which shows a further decline, Sheep or rabbit skins are much about the same. We quote Butter, 5d per lb; eggs, 8d pet' dozen. Poultry—Fowls, 3s 3d; ducks, 4s 3d; geese, 4s 9d; turkeys, 6s per paii. Pigs slips, 7s to 9s each. Horses—Hacks, £3los to £8 os; harness do, £7 to £ll Draughts ££ 10s to £1(). Cows-dairy, £4 10s to £6 os.
