Wairarapa North County Council.

FINANCE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Finance Com- ( mittee of the above Council was held this morning. Present-Cra Maunsell (chairman), Stuckoy, von Reden, Guild, Smith, and Groves. Tho Treasurer reported a total credit of £1,586 Is 9d. Cr Stuckoy moved and Cr toivos seconded, that the Government be requested to inform the Council, ' whether any portiou of a loan can be paid oft' before the period of the currency of the loan expires.— Carried.

The Clerk was instructed to furnish the Council, at next sitting, with a return showing the date at which the accumulated Taueru Toll I 1 und, will enable the Council to abolish the toll and pay off the loan. ' The Engineer was instructed to furnish a return showing tho comparative cost per cubic yard, of metalling under tho system adopted by Messrs Beetham and by contract.

Accounts amounting to £2319 14s 5d were recommended for payment. The clerk was instructed to pro- ' pare a statement of the Council's liability to Mr G, W. Phillips, and the amountof the Councils claim against him for rates, costs, etc. The Committee then rose.
