THE MEAT QUESTION.
[TO iiii: KMTOH.] Sin.—ln calling attention to the present high price of meat in Masterton, you arc ventilating the grievances of a long-suffering public. The prices quoted by a Masterton 1 butcher in your issue of yesterday are very different from those charged at the door - even for cash. I could produce tickets showing that beef has within the last two months been charged 80 to 100 per cent, above those prices. This may, or may not be within the knowledge of I lie proprietor, for I consider the habit of sending meat round, and leaving the public-as far as price is concerned—in tlio hands of the men in the carts, is a very unwise one. Let the butchcra issue to their customers a list of prices, which shall be subject to revision in any alteration in the market.—l am,etc., A CoxsuMtn.
