THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TREATY. (Received February 8,11 a.m,) Adelaide, February 8. Before leaving for England Mr Ward stated that he had received a telegram notifying that h; s G overn . ment generally approved of the Treaty, but one qualification is to bB made that the agreement will liav* to terminate should tlieN. Z. Parliament adopt tho prohibition of the liquor law. Tho Treaty will come into force on July 20th, Locally the arrangement is strongly condemned in commercial circles, and is described as a stab in the back to any great scheme of federation with intercolonial free trade. It is considered to be not only <»M federal in spirit, biit likely lo proW of little or no benefit in actual trading, when compared with the antagonism which will probably bo created in other colonios.
