(Specially Compiled for the WairaWa Duly Times). The returns of the Bank of England, for the week ending 24th January, show the reserve to stand at £27,H2,000, an increase for the week, of £940,000. The accretions for the four weeks amounted to £3,170,000. With money so plentiful, it is not surprising, that good investments are eagerly sought. The Tasmanian loan of £750,000 at per cent,, 1 floated early this month, gives an indication of the state of the market. For this loan, three hundred tenders were received, to the aggregate amount of £2,438,000, at prices ranging up to £9!) 10s. The average price was £9B 6s Id, as compared 1 with the last Tasmanian 3j per cent, loan floated, which averaged only £92. ' British 2f per cents, (Goschen's) consols, show a decided advance this week, being now quoted at 105f, as compared with 101f the week previous. At the present high price, the investor receives only £2 12s per cent. The 4 per cent. The latest reports state that New Zealand meat is depressed.
