TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Saturday. On Monday evening last as Mr Osborne, storekeeper, Tenui, was driving from "Whakataki, his trap wheel, ran over a large stone which was at the side of (lie road, at the the foot of the Big Saddle and it capsized. Mr Osborne and his hoy were pitched out, fortunately escaping with a few bruises. The trap was badly smashed. Mr Harvey, carrier, Whakataki,

had a wonderfully narrow escape

/ from a serious accident. He was A driving from Whakataki to Tenui with a load of fencing wire, weighing about 30 cwt., when, on reaching the Little Saddle, the brake would not act properly, and the front-car-riage struck the horses' hocks, causing them to run away. The driver turned tlicin into the bank, but unfortunately the pole broke, and the horses went headlong down a steep bank about 60 feet, into the gully. His two children who were on top of the load, fortunately escaped. One jnmped off as the brake left the road, but the other girl's pinafore caught in a barb of the wire, and prevented her jumping. Over and over went the brake, and when it reached the gully, Mr Harvey called to his child, and to his astonishment and joy, she answered" as she crawled from underneath the wire under the brake. She escaped without a bruise. The inquest on the body of Jane Steel Dunn, who died so suddenly on Thursday at Whakataki, was held yesterday, before Mr 11. Belliss, Coroner, and the following jury : C, R, Joplin (foreman), D. Speedy, 4L, Haselden, T, Roberts, J. Saxon, aud J. Pickett, Mrs Dunn, the mother, deposed that deceased had complained of pains in her side for the last two years. She had been in service with Mrs Andrew, and received every kindness. I)r Dawson stated that the young woman had been attended by him on two occasions, the last time being three weeks ago. He was of opinion that she died of heart disease. In accordance with his evidence, the jury found that death was caused by syncope.
