SAD FATALITY AT A PICNIC.
A YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED' (By Telegraph''—Press Association). Naher, Thursday. A party of young ladies went for a picnic on the banks of the Tutaekuri River. Three of them—Jfyra Cunningham, Ella JlcVay, audlluth Foster—went in to bathe, but soon Miss Cunningham got out of her depth. MissMcVay wenttoherassistance, but herself got into danger. Miss Poster then went after Miss McVay, but finding that she was also getting beyond hei'deptb,turned and just managed to reach the shore in an exhausted condition.
Hor cries had called the attention of some lads, one of whom, Frank Glover, wont to the assistance of tho other young ladios. He managed, at great risk to himself, to save Miss McVay, who struggled ivildy, and Glover might have been drowned had not another boy named Fred Smith gono to his aid,
Miss Cunningham was drowned, her body not being recovered for an hoar and a half afterwards, Glover has been recommended for the Boyal Humane Society's medal.
