GREYTOWN NOTES.

(From Our Owji Correspondent.) Monday. 1 believe the Native Land Comi is to be adjourned this week until February next. The natives are already leavingfor their various homes. A native, the worse for liquor, smashed a largo pane of glass in one of Mr Acheson's offico windows last Friday evening. Tho weather hero is intensely warm, the temperature ranging as high as 100 degrees in tho sun and over 80 in the shade, Drunkonness appears to bo a growing evil amongst a portion of the native population. It is quite a common thing to see native woman in a stateof intoxication. Surely something should be done to stay this evil. Many of sho|is have commenced to show thoir Christmas goods iu endless variety, and the town itsolf presents a very picturesque and clean appearance. I regret vory much to hear that Mr Josiah Beere, late of Greytown, and now of Napior, has recently bad to resort to a very painful operation, namoly, ofhavingoneof his eyes taken out, Mr John Beere, of Greytown, a brother, is at present in Wellington undergoing a similar operation. There appears to be a disoasc in tho melon crop this season. The Greytown Cheese Factory is receiving about 600 gallons of milk daily. Mr Haxtou, who diod at Masterton last woek was the father of Mrs : ' Hayes and Mrs Wenden of Greytown. Ho has passed through a lot of trouble in his time. A runaway horso, minus rider, caused a little excitement Lore lasi Saturday evening, Talking of drunkenness. This beats all. While in Featherston last Friday, I noticed tho constable wheeling a drunk from tlip railway station to the police cells in a wheel, barrow! !
