(By Telegrapb.-Own Correspon dent). Pauiatua, Monday. The Makuri cricketers defeated tho Pahiatna second ou Saturday by four wickets. They play Woodville to-day. Hawera senior eleven played Woodville seniorelcvenon Saturday, and were defeated by 12 runs in the first innings. On Saturday anaccideuthappened to S. Dawson, eldest son of Mr J. Damon, contractor, He was engaged on a contract at the Mangatainoka Bridge, when a boam fell from tho pile-driver, crushing tho first finger of his right hand. The beam just missed falling on his head. The Literary Society closes its season to-night with a social. Mi' T. Hodgins who has been Boriously ill in Wellington for somo time, is reported to be somewhat worse. The Walter Bentley Company open here on Wednesday evening. Tho Knights of Labor havo had satisfactory nominations for their Sports on Boxing Day,
