At the meeting of the Masterton School Committee last evening the head master reported that he bad administered corporal chastisement of a mild character to certain big girls, and that one of them had left the school in consequence, He claimed that the discipline of the school compelled bis action, and the Committee expressed full confidence in his discretion, There is, however, a' principle at stake. The Board prohibits corporal punishment, and either its regulation is wrong, or it should be obeyed. It would have been better for the Committee to have faced this dilemma, still by the course'it adopted it practically condemns the regulation of the Board.
