Havt Hotel, Garterfonj was charged last Tuesday, by Constablo Darby, with, on tlio Bth Octobor, having kept his hotel opon for the sale of '. liquor after licensed hours, and with havingon thosamodateserved drink ... after hours, Defendant pleaded r " guilty to both charges,.and said ho had been running the ; hotel 1 under .-.<,;' difficult circumstances..; Ever, since .'• J he came to Carterton his wifo had :■ been in the hospital. He had in consequence brought from Wellington on the day in question a housekeeper to manage affah'sfor him, He was busy upstairs when Constable Darby came in, getting beds'and supper ready for' a theatricalcompany.
