(From Our Own Correspondent), • Monday. At tho monthly meeting of the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board hold on Saturday tho Treasurer reported the indebtedness of the Board at £llBO which was increased by accounts passed later on at tho mooting, amounting to £351, A discussion took place over the Waiohino bridge protection works, which are being carried on undor tho direction of the engineer to tho Featherston Road Board, the two Boards being jointly responsible forthe safety of the bridge, which is threatened at its Northern approach by the encroachment of tho river, Mr J. G, Stevens said willow fascines were being constructed on the bank and these were backed in with stones, This was scouring underneath already aud the LlOOand over, expended on the work, would be money thrown away. Ho advocated driving piles and sheathing them with stout timber to make a permanent job of it. No action was taken by the Board.
Some weeks since Mr Ross, of Kuripuni lost three head of cattle. They died from the effects of eating poisoned grass on the road side at Taratahi where the Board's contractors had been clearing grass by means of pbisoni The Board on Saturday last agreed to pay the sura of L 8 to Mr Ross in compensation for his loss, rather than go to court,
