''TheFakiroj Ook" 1 _ There are many np and downs in life, and the best of men sometimes meet reverses of fortune as sevore, as unexpected and unmerited. Such has apparently been tho experiorico of Professor Sylvester, better known as the "Fakir of Oolu," a man who has reached the top of his profession as a wonder-worker, aud who-in his palmy days-has delightedmany a large audience, night after night, in some of tho largest cities of the world, Latterly a series of misfortunes seem to have dogged his steps, and after a gallant fight against tbe inevitable, he found himselfra week ago, with wife and six littlo ones, "Btranded" at Mastcrton, with only one chance ahead, and that was a, full house at his entertainment last night. Buteven the weather- seemed against him, and .the entertain?' ment-one of the brightest of the, kind ever given in Mastei-ton ton—failed for want of support. By accident Mr J, E, Hood discovered how bad matters really were,' and that thp Professor's wife and children, were really in need of the necessities of life,, having neither food nor firing in tho empty house they bad taken, not having tho wherewithal to stay atan hotel.
