Tub Mastorton Gas Committee has at last taken steps to put the manufacture of gas in this town on a better footing. While we thank it for doing its duty on this occasion wo cannot exonerato it from blame in tho past, A year ago it was goncrallyknownnbouttown that tho affairs undor its control were in disorder, and tho only persons who know little or nothing about, them appear to have been the members of the Gas Committeo. The Borough administration Ims not only been non-progressive, but it has absolutely been weak, and although wo do not think Mr Pownall is in every respect the fittest person to bo Mayor ef this town, a man with his 'progressive views and bnsiness capacity is almost wanted, and wo are not altogether sorry that he talks about coming forward again for office.
