CARTERTON.

(From Our Op Correspondent). ' Saturday. The bachelors of Carterton gave a ball on Thursday, in the Assembly Rooms, the invited guests numbering about lifty couples, several being from Masterton. An excellent floor, good music, and pteasant'compauy made a most enjoyable evening, llr A. Ji. Whyte catered and provided a choice spread. Jliss Matliieson was generally acknowledged the " belle" of the evening. The samo evening a social was held in the Carterton Wesleyan Schoolroom, .the building being wellfilled. The usual parlourgames were indulged in, and a programme of songs tuid recitations wliick rat highly appreciated.
