It'is high time that the ratepayers awoke to tilings, no balance sheet has appeared yet and this ought to have appeared in the beginning of April; the bank "book lias not been made up for months, and the books are ingencral.disorder, so tlio treasurer reported. at tlio meeting last Monday. Inspector Pender came up by Saturday night's train, .■ He is to eonduel the enquiry before the Coronor Mr Hutchison to-day, into tlio late lire of the Club Hotel.
Rather a sensationn-ascauscd here last Friday by a ring-tailed opossum which was being exhibited at the Empire Hotel., It was caught on Mr Buck's property, and has been sent to Maslerlon to he stuffed, It is only a very short while since some opossums ware liberated at Pahaulanui. Evidently this is.one which lifts worked its way across the hills. At one time last night the congregation of' St. John's Church, thought tlioy wore not going to have the Rev Mr Andrew, hut after a wait of about ten minutes tlio Rev. genlleman turned up, II seems that lie and his driver lost their way, not being accustomed to our many streets.
