Pahiatua Notes.
(From Our Oivn Correspondent.) Tuesday. Bather an amusing incident in connection with a wedding gift presentation, occurred here last < Friday. A stranger to the district, calling himself Barker, with much feeling and many apologies for the poor character of the gift, presented Mrs Lister, of the Makakahi hotel, with a pair of vases. Subsequently a pair of vases were missed from the Empire Hotel, and were traced to . Makakahi as likewise tho thief and donor, where he was anestcd, and he will be dealt with later on. Mr Ruthcrfurd, who has been .transferred from the Bank of N.Z., 3Mj£ft to Wellington, was entertamed by a number of membeis of the Pahiatua Cricket Club, and presented with a bat, suitably inscribed.
There will he no lack of amusement in'Jfcihiatuu on Queen's Birthday, A football match has been arranged, and also a rille shooting competition, for which many vnlrable praes and trophies have been promised, Several large sporting parties have been arranged, and the Public Hall engaged for an entertainment. The Pahiatua Jockey Club are about bestirring themselves in the direction of making extensive alterations and inprovements to the racecourse in view of making matters more complete for the coming rainy season, Theßallanceßutter Factory ,which atpiesent is receiving daily 350j gallons of milk, will shut flown at the end of the season about the end of the present month. One supplier —Mr JJawson—is phi'jiiig his dairy of 50 cows and 30 heiferx in the market thin week, as also the whole of the plrfnt. Settlers will havo a good oppoajpity of adding to their dairy stock!
