Eketahuna Notes
(FimjQn&Qwn Correspondent) Tuesday. A meeting of the ladies Commit in connection with the Church o; England was hold on Monday evening, Mrs Mannsell in tho chair. The following committee were elected:—Mesdamoi Lewis, Nicholson, Pelling, Mannsell, Crook, and Piescott; Misses Baker and Crook; Hon. Sec. Mrs Mannsell; Treasurer Mrs Nicholson; Trustees M'esdamcs Nicholson, Mnunsell, and Lewis. It was resolved to hold a social on Wednesday May 30th, and throughout the Avinter months, and in addition a bazaar as soon as possible. It was also decided to hold services at Newman onco a month on each second Sunday. The ladies committee of the Anglican Church, in Eketahuna, have £2815s in the bank. The opening meeting of the Eketahuna Mutual Impiovement Society was held in the Oddf el lows' Hall, on Tuesday, 26 membois being piesent. Mr Perymnn (President) MS£tt£g chaii. The minutes of the previous meeting'were read and adopted. The President; in his inaugural addiess, refeued; to the geneial need of lefoim throughout the world, and hoped thattlie society would be conducive to the general good of the township. Impiomptn speaking occupied the remainder of the evening, and nearly all those present participated. The Pi esident notified that next Tuesday evening there would be debated—" Is the onfirtuchisementof women calculated to benefit the Colony \" Miss Fairhall taking the affiimative and Mr A, H, Heibert the negative. The meeting terminated with a Lenity vote of thanks to the Pi esident for his opening addiess,
The stnmp extractor will perform in F. Pelling's paddock this nftoinoon, and great interest locally is being manifested,
The local "burnt cork" artists will give a perfoimauce at Newman on the 29th inst., in aid of the piano fund of the hall.
The Band Committee have decided to hold fojimjhtly dances throughout the winSr, the fust of the series taking place on Thursday night, excellent music being piovided, and on enjoyable time is in store for the terpsichoreans. .
