FEATHERSTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
lam glad to say that the young man who waß bucked from bis horse at Tauherenikau on Tuesday is progressing favourably, He is still at Mr Hiley's but not suffering from concussion of the brain as was feared at first,
The Road Board held an extraordinary meeting yesterday afternoon for the purpose of confirming the rate of f in the £, which is to be levied on aHVateuble property in the Featherston district.
The rain of Tuesday and Wednesday blocked up a culvert which runs under the Groytown Fealherston road, currying the water of Messrs Fharazyii and Elgar'a water race, thus flooding the road for chainß, Yesterday men had to cut up the toad to get the top of the culvert off bo as to clear the stoppage away, and turn the water jnto its proper channel. At the forthcoming Road Board eleotion Messrs Coleman Phillips and Mo Kerrow intend contesting Mr Nix's Ward. This should be a warm contest Mr Nix having been in five years and only missed three meetings during that period,
It is current that one of our hotel keepers is going to run a blacksmith's stop in conjunction with his hotel, evidently he intendß being prepared for the work that comes.
We are to have our Courthouse it seems, and it is to be erected very near the old site, which seems a pity, for if wjll be so exposed, that a fire either in Revane or jj'itzhejtbert streets will haye every ohaooe of sotting it on fire.
We .experienced a very hard frost this morojng, tynfl there is. every appearance or a fine evening for the Hospital Ball, and j believe that Fealherston will be fairly represented
