SUPREME COURT.

A Heavy Calendar. (By Telegraph—Press Association), Wellinoton, Monday. In charging the Grand Jury this morning, the Chief Justice referred to the heavy nature of the calendar, and Bind crime was also apparently on the increase in other centies of the Colony His Honor's remarks were brief, and confined to the charges o! rape, and the attempt to defraud an Insurance Company. The greater number of casus are for larceny, assault, robbery and breaking and entering. . The young man Robert Bleokley pleaded guilty to tho lavcony o! n bicycle, at Wellington, and was sentenced to twelve mouths. Alexander Boss, aged 62, against whom there were several previous convictions, pleaded guilty to breaking into a private house in Wellington, and stealing a quantity of wearing apparel, and was sentenced to two year'shard labour. When this offence was committed the accused had only been a few days out of gaol, after serving eighteen months (or larceny,

! . Later, Wellington, Monday. B. Haskell, charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £l3, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to twelve months. John R»ginald, alias Crawford, ion three charges of passing valueless [cheques, pleaded guilty,' and was' jsentenceil to three years' hard labour. A true bill was also returned in the case of Potter on obarges of burglary, but an adjournment was granted, and there being no other bills returned the jurors had to he dismissed till 2 p.m.
